Hunt + Gather

The Savin Hill Neighborhood will host a yard sale on Saturday, September 6th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a rain date of Saturday, September 13th. You know the old saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Plan to hunt and gather your way through the neighborhood and expect anything from vintage tableware, furniture, books, sporting equipment, artwork and more. You never know what you’ll find but it might exactly what you are looking for!  Bring cash – most sellers are cash only!  Here are 5 Things to Expect!

Celebrate Honeybee Month in the Neighborhood

Presented in partnership with Classroom Hives, Inc, join the team at Emerald Necklace Conservancy in Franklin Park for the second annual National Honeybee Month Celebration on Saturday, September 6! See live bees in an enclosed observation hive, tickle your taste buds with a honey taste test, and explore pollination information with the whole family. The celebration is held between 1-4pm at Franklin Park Playstead, Circuit Drive, Boston. All ages welcome, intended for families with children ages 4-10. RSVP is recommended online here.

DISCover Ultimate Day

DISCover Ultimate Day is a free introduction to the fast-growing sport of ultimate frisbee, offering players ages 9 to 14 the chance to learn, play, and have fun in a welcoming environment. No prior experience is necessary, and all equipment will be provided. Players only need to bring sneakers or cleats, comfortable clothing, and an eagerness to try something new. Registration is free and open now! Space is limited, so early sign-up is encouraged.  Sign up here!

See Jaws on the Big Screen

As the film marks its 50th anniversary, Jaws will return to the giant screen at the New England Aquarium’s Simons Theatre with nightly screenings Sept. 4-6. The film tells the story of a massive great white shark that terrorizes a summer resort town where a police chief, a grizzled fisherman, and an intrepid marine biologist battle the bloodthirsty animal. Experience the fully restored classic film on the Simons Theatre’s giant screen, nearly five stories high with wrap-around digital surround sound. Tickets are $10 each. Themed concessions will be available for purchase, including specialty cocktails. Visitors can also pair a film with a visit to the Aquarium, grab dinner and drinks at Dockside Beer Garden on Central Wharf, and create a special evening with friends and family. Purchase tickets here.

Grand Opening Celebration at The Dot Block Diner

There’s a new spot to grab breakfast in the neighborhood, and it comes with some familiar roots. The Dot Block Diner and More launched a soft opening recently, bringing classic diner vibes with a modern twist to the ground floor of the Dot Block development on Dorchester Ave. It also marks the first retail space to open in the complex, which began welcoming residents in 2023. The man behind the griddle? Bernie Goodman, the same guy who gave us the beloved McKenna’s Café in Savin Hill. The new 49-seat diner will serve up breakfast and lunch daily—waffles are the star of the menu—and plans to add 20 outdoor seats soon.  Grand Opening Celebration takes place on Saturday, September 6th from 6am-4pm.
