UPDATE:

Universal Hub is reporting that the Zoning Board of Appeal approved the plans submitted by the Martin Richard Foundation and the Dorchester Boys & Girls Club for a three-story field house in Dorchester.

The 75,000-square-foot field house will reside at 317 Mount Vernon Street and includes a playing fields and courts, a walking track and fitness and training rooms, in addition to classroom space, a public cafe, a teaching kitchen and outdoor garden and more.

This project is not without controversy. Many residents and BPS families and teachers voiced opposition and concern about the loss of outdoor green space in the neighborhood. According to the Boston Globe, Mayor Wu (as a City Councilor) was among those who spoke up against leasing the fields. The Boston School Committee voted 3-2 to approve the lease.

Back in March, the BPDA approved the project.
