Universal Hub is reporting that the school committee voted on Wednesday night to turn over the John McCormack School playing field to a new Boys and Girls Club field house.

Last summer, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester and the Martin W. Richard Foundation submitted a plan for the new facility to the Boston Public Schools.  Part of this plan included taking over the playing fields of the McCormack School and it was not without controversy.  Families of the McCormack School felt like they were kept in the dark about the plans to take over the land and turn it over to the new facility.

The Boys and Girls Clubs proposal does include the mention the new facility would be open to students during school hours and to Boys and Girls Clubs members during non-school hours.

The vote went as follows: Michael Loconto, Michael O’Neill and Alexandra Oliver-Davila voted for the handover, Lorna Rivera and Jeri Robinson voted against and members Hardin Coleman and Quoc Tran abstained.

You can read about the proposal here and here.
