Oh no! The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is reporting that a Boston man in his twenties has tested positive for the coronavirus. The man recently returned from Wuhan, China.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified the department and the Boston Public Health Commission about the positive test Friday night. It is the eighth case of cornovirus confirmed in the U.S.

Officials said the man has been isolated since he reached out for medical care soon after returning to Boston. His close contacts are being monitored for symptoms of the virus.

Officials said the risk of catching the virus in Massachusetts remains low.

More than 7,000 cases of 2019-nCoV novel coronavirus have been identified in 20 countries, with 99 percent of those cases in China. Hundreds of other people with symptoms are being tested.

Common symptoms of coronavirus include fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent 2019-nCoV infection. The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

And whatever you do, don’t watch the movie Contagion.
