Boston Unveils Updated Plans for Blue Hill Avenue Bus Project
The City of Boston and the MBTA have released updated plans for the proposed Blue Hill Avenue redesign following months of community feedback and concerns.
According to WBUR, the new design still includes a center-running bus lane but adds 42 more parking spaces than currently exist along the project area. Plans also call for 200 new trees, six miles of rebuilt sidewalks, and a two-way, sidewalk-level bike path. The updated design would maintain two lanes of vehicle traffic in each direction through most of the corridor.
The project, which stretches roughly three miles between Mattapan Square and Grove Hall, has faced opposition from some residents, business owners, and elected officials concerned about traffic, parking, and the impact on local businesses.
Mayor Michelle Wu said the changes reflect feedback received from the community, particularly around parking, safety, and beautification. The city is holding additional public meetings this month to discuss the updated plans.
