Probably not news to anyone who lives here but it’s expensive to rent in Boston!

According real estate website Zumper’s January 2020 National Rent Report, Boston was the 3rd most expensive rental market with one bedroom rent growing 3.6% to $2,590, while two bedrooms decreased 1.2% to $3,390. Notably, on a year over year basis, two bedroom rent is up 8.5%.

This winter, Chinatown – Leather District was the most expensive neighborhood with one bedrooms priced at $3,400. Downtown Boston, South Boston Waterfront, and Back Bay were the next priciest areas with rents all above the $3,000 threshold. More affordable rents, priced closer to the one bedroom city median, could be found in Charlestown, South Boston, and Fenway.  Dorchester median rent price was $1950.

Meanwhile, the least expensive neighborhoods were all priced at $1,800 or below and included Mattapan, Hyde Park, and Roslindale.
