New 7-Story Apartment Building with 108 Units Proposed for Fields Corner

A new housing development could be coming to Fields Corner. According to the Boston Business Journal, plans have been filed for a seven-story apartment building with 108 units at 80 Christopher St., replacing an existing automotive repair shop in an industrial area just off Adams Street.
The proposed project, from developer Colman Grealish of Quincy, includes 48 studio apartments, 36 one-bedroom units, and 24 two-bedroom units. Because the property is currently zoned for industrial use, the development will need special zoning approval before it can move forward.
While Dorchester continues to see new residential projects across the neighborhood, Fields Corner has seen less large-scale development. In addition to the ongoing $31 million expansion of the Fields Corner Branch Library, expected to wrap up later this year, several other housing proposals are also making their way through the approval process, including projects on High Street, Washington Street, and Hannon Street.

This is GREAT news for Fields Corner. Get ready to fight off the NIMBYS though. Hopefully social media hysteria will not derail another good project. I’m sure =with some neighborhood input-this project will be the best it can be. Keep goin Fields Corner!
