Dorchester Development News: Big changes are coming to Bowdoin Street.

According to Universal Hub, the Zoning Board of Appeal has approved plans to replace a single-family home at 190 Bowdoin Street with a four-story, 33-unit affordable housing development. The project is being led by VietAID, a local nonprofit with deep roots in the neighborhood.
The new building, set to be called Hollins Park, will include a mix of 11 one-bedroom, 18 two-bedroom, and 4 three-bedroom apartments. All units will be designated for residents earning 60% or less of the area median income, adding much-needed affordable housing to the area.
Plans also include eight surface parking spaces, indoor storage for 36 bicycles, plus additional outdoor racks—so yes, bike-friendly living is part of the vision.
The proposal required several zoning variances due to the lot’s irregular shape, slope, and existing restrictions that don’t typically allow multi-family housing. But with no opposition and support from City Councilors Brian Worrell and John FitzGerald, the project moved forward.
VietAID previously developed a 41-unit building across the street, so this marks another significant investment in the Bowdoin Street corridor.
