Go Fly a Kite

Visit Spectacle Island on Fridays and receive a free kit as you board the ferry.  Kites are limited to one per group or family and takes place each Friday through September 3rd while supplies last.  Tickets for Friday service to the Islands will be 50 percent off through June 25. Boston Harbor City Cruises will offer discounted ferry tickets for $4 for a family of up to four people for families participating in EBT or SNAP programs. A Shot for Life Basketball Game between BFD and BPD

On Saturday, June 5th at 2:30pm, head to Garvey Park in Dorchester (34 Neponset Ave) for a fun game of basketball between BFD and BPD. A Shot for Life is non-profit foundation and this year’s beneficiary will be Grant Medeiros, a 6 year old boy from Dighton, MA. Grant has battled Leukemia twice and because of his immune system needed to be in isolation for over a year back in 2018 and 2019. He has had multiple surgeries as well as a bone marrow transplant. His health is headed in a positive direction and will continue to be monitored in the near future as he keeps fighting against this horrible disease. He is an honorary firefighter with the Dighton Fire Dept. Stop by and show your support!

Rainbow Pride-Themed Bluebikes

To mark the start of Pride Month, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has unveiled 100 rainbow pride-themed Bluebikes, which are now integrated throughout the Bluebikes system. As part of the month-long roll out of the “Blue Cross Proud bikes” and to demonstrate its continued support of LGBTQ+ pride, Blue Cross will donate $1 for every ride taken on pride-themed Bluebikes through the month of June to Fenway Health in Boston.

Local Children’s Author Event

Greater Ashmont Main Streets is hosting local children’s author Veronica Chapman for Storytime on Peabody Square this Saturday, June 5th from 11am-12pm. The event is free and open to the public. Light snacks provided. Copies of Veronica’s books will be added into the GAMS Lending Libraries following the event!
