Celebrate the Outdoors (& Free National Parks)

Help celebrate the anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act and make a point to get outside this weekend. Friday is one of five days in 2023 when you can get into more than 400 National Parks across America for no admission fee. You can find a list of parks in New England here. 

Crochet Club Saturday

Maybe you’ve been curious about #crochettrends on TikTok or maybe you’re already a pro. Either way you can head over to the Lower Mills Library Community Room on Saturday from 11am-12:30pm for this free club that’s open to people of all skill levels. Basic supplies are provided.

Feast of Saint Agrippina

The first of many feasts in the North End, the feast of Saint Agrippina kicks off with an action-packed schedule featuring free live entertainment, food, drinks and something for the entire family. Don’t miss the return of the famous tug of war event Sunday evening! #CaughtintheNorthEnd

Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience

The illuminating light show returns to Franklin Park Zoo starting this weekend, featuring new lanterns and displays. Ticket prices vary. You can learn more here! 

Roxbury Poetry Festival

The event will bring together award-winning poetry writers including a keynote address from poet, essayist and MacArthur Fellow, Hanif Abdurraqib. A poetry slam will close out the evening. Registration is free and open to the public.

Friendship Bracelet Workshop for Kids at the Local Hand

Join the Local Hand on Saturday, August 5th for a Friendship Bracelet workshop for kids! Taught by local educator Alex Flatley, this event is ideal for ages 6-12. Younger siblings age 4-6 are welcome to join as well; there will have separate craft activities for them. You can learn more here!

FAN EXPO Boston at the Convention Center

The comic, sci-fi, horror, anime, gaming and cosplay event returns to Boston this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Don’t miss celebrity guest talks including An Evening with Hayden Christensen, photo opps, autograph sessions, fan meetups and much more throughout the weekend.  

Flower Shop Pop-Up at DBCo

Although the smell of a New England IPA is hard to beat, fresh-cut flowers are a close second. Don’t miss the Lupine Flower Company selling fresh picks and plants from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday.

Take a Hike

Connecting 17 Boston neighborhoods from the Neponset River Reservation to Bunker Hill Monument, the Walking City Trail is a 27-mile  hiking path through some of Boston’s most scenically immersive parks, urban wilds, gardens, and residential neighborhoods. The trail starts in Mattapan and ends at Bunker Hill.  You can get the full details, including maps, here. 

National Oyster Day Aug. 5

Pop over to Southie to celebrate National Oyster Day with a raw bar patio party at Castle Island Brewing Saturday from 2pm to 5pm. Nautical attire encouraged! If you’re a seasoned shucker, you can always celebrate by going to Adams Fish Market to pick up a dozen (or three) of your own.

Sunday Yoga at Carson Beach

Find your inner peace before Sunday Funday in Southie. The one-hour class starts at 11am and registration is $20 per person.
