Update via Boston Police:
At about 9:34 PM, on Monday, March 18, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Avery Lewis, 31, of Dorchester, for the non-fatal shooting of a Boston Police Officer on Esmond Street.
Avery Lewis is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:
-Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
-Unlawful possession of Ammunition
-Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
-Armed Assault to Murder
-Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm)
-Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
-Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
-Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony
-Trafficking of Cocaine, 36 grams or more, less than 100 grams
-Resisting Arrest

A BPD officer is recovering at Boston Medical Center after being shot Monday in Dorchester on Monday night.
BPD responded to a call around 9:30 pm for a person with a gun on Esmond Street. The officer was shot in his bulletproof vest when responding.
The officer was taken to Boston Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was placed in company and will be arraigned on Tuesday in Dorchester District Court.
