Update:
At about 4:00 PM, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area of 479 Blue Hill Avenue for a report of an armed robbery. Officers were advised that three armed suspects with firearms entered the business and robbed the individuals. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
Detectives were able to obtain video surveillance from inside the business, and immediately recognized two of the suspects. Detectives also utilized city of Boston cameras and obtained a partial plate of the fleeing vehicle.
One of the victim’s stolen watches was being tracked to the area of Adams Street and Lyon Street. Officers requested assistance from District C-11 (Dorchester) who were then able to locate the suspected vehicle in the driveway of 86 Adams Street.
After further investigation, officers were able to determine that the three suspects involved in the armed robbery were inside the apartment building. A perimeter was established outside, and a Code 99 was declared.
After negotiation efforts, one of the suspects was taken into custody. A short time after, a second suspect was taken into custody. A third suspect refused to exit an apartment, and a forced entry was made by SWAT in order to place the suspect into custody.
The involved apartments were secured pending a search warrant.
During the booking process, officers located two plastic bags of a brown rock substance, and five plastic bags of hard rock substance. The bags were believed to be drugs and were packaged in separate plastic bags.
All three suspects are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
James Mendes, 32, of Randolph, was placed under arrest and charged with:

– Kidnapping
– Breaking and Entering Daytime for Felony
– Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
Eric Hines, 32, of Roslindale, was placed under arrest and charged with:
– Larceny of a Firearm
– Armed Robbery
– Carry a Firearm Without a License
– Breaking and Entering Daytime for Felony
– Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
Hendrick Davis, 41, of Brockton, was placed under arrest and charged with:
– Larceny of a Firearm
– Armed Robbery
– Carry a Firearm Without a License
– Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A
– Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B
– Breaking and Entering Daytime for Felony

According to NBC 10 Boston, video from the scene showed a BPD tactical team outside the home, as well as Boston EMS wearing bulletproof vests and helmets. Law enforcement could be heard calling over a loudspeaker for anyone inside the multi-family home to come out with their hands up.
Around 9:30pm on Thursday, BPD held a press conference and stated they were able to remove and arrest three people from the home. Police initially were called to 479 Blue Hill Avenue just after 4 p.m. Thursday for a report of an armed robbery in progress at a barber shop.
According to BPD Deputy Supt. Joseph Gillespie, individuals inside Edward’s Barber Shop were robbed at gunpoint by multiple people, who then fled the scene. Detectives learned that the suspects’ vehicle was in the neighborhood and they were hiding out in the house on Adams Street, prompting a response from the SWAT team and negotiators.
