Three Boston Police officers were transported to an area hospital after being shot by a suspect who was barricaded in a home at 29 Ferndale Street.

According to WCVB, BPD police and SWAT teams were in front of this home for over six hours negotiating with a person locked inside with a gun. When officers went inside the home, the suspect open fired hitting three of them. Officers fired back at the suspect and he succumbed later from life-threatening injuries.

During a press conference on Tuesday evening, Suffolk County DA Rachel Rollins- whose office will be investigating the incident – was heckled relentlessly by a man in the crowd.

Acting BPD Police Commissioner Greg Long spoke and relayed the details of the day leading up to the shooting. “This highlights the dangers the men and women of this department face every single day they put on this uniform,” Long said. “I can’t say enough about the professionalism, courage, and bravery the officers show every day.”

This incident happens less than a week after a BPD officer was stabbed in the neck responding to a domestic violence incident in Dorchester.
