Plan accordingly
The MBTA is making signal upgrades to the Red Line, which will temporarily affect service on the Red Line. On the weekends of March 8 – 9, March 22 – 23, and March 29 – 30, trains will not run between JFK/UMass and Braintree.
Free shuttle buses will replace train service, stopping at all stations along the affected route. Passengers can also take the Middleborough, Kingston, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines for free between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass, and South Station. Travel time on the Commuter Rail from Braintree to South Station is expected to be about 24 minutes. Regular fares will apply for trips beyond Braintree.
The MBTA expects these upgrades to enhance operational efficiency and reduce wait times for all riders.
