On Thursday, President Joe Biden nominated Dorchester native and former Mayor of Boston Marty Walsh for a position on the U.S. Postal Service’s Board of Governors. Walsh spent more than two years as labor secretary under the Biden administration.

Walsh currently leads the NHL players’ union, and it’s not clear if Walsh would need to leave this position to take on this new board seat.

According to WBUR, the board oversees the operations of the Postal Service, and it describes itself as “comparable to a board of directors of a publicly held corporation.” There can be up to nine seats on this board and seven of those seats are currently filled.
