Weekend Picks – November 9th

Eat:
Cooler temps makes us want to eat pizza and pasta! No better place for that than Molinari’s!  Start with Ida’s Meatballs or the Arancini and a glass of red wine!  Then maybe a little Penna al la Vodka or one of Molinari’s specialty pizzas like the Bianco with garlic parmesan cream, fontina, mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula greens and drizzled balsamic syrup.

Drink:
Raise your glass to the weekend!  Lower Mills Tavern has a new fall cocktail the ”Weller” Brown Derby cocktail is an exception ???? Made with W.L. Weller Special Reserve bourbon, grapefruit, honey+ and bitters! Cheers!

See:
Honor and remember. On Saturday, November 10th from 10am-12pm the Dorchester Historical Society will launch a soft opening of a new exhibit featuring Dorchester service members of World War I. Visit and learn about the men and women who served our country 100 years ago.

Do:
Meet & Greet!  Dorchester Growing Together is hosting a special community event on Saturday, November 10th at Restaurante Cesaria – 266 Bowdoin Street – from 11am-1pm.  Come meet new people, enjoy great food and learn about Dorchester Growing Together.  All ages welcome!  RSVP here!

Volunteer:
Cedar Grove Gardens is looking for volunteers for fall bulb planting on Sunday, November 11th at 10am.  Meet at Lydia’s Bench at the Triangle off Adams Street entrance.  There are over 500 bulbs to plant to make the neighborhood a little more beautiful!

Celebrate:
Let’s celebrate the Strand Theatre turning 100!  On Saturday, November 10th a special afternoon “Movie & Vaudeville Our Way” featuring a dazzling display of classic splendor with MC & comedian Jonathan Gates, live performance by The Boston Tap Company for a movie and tap fusion with a touch of comedy!  The fun happens 2:30pm-6pm.

Dance:
dbar is kicking off a decades celebration on Saturday, November 10th 10pm-2am with the 70’s.  Plan on dancing the night away with DJ Jay Ine!

Brunch:
Brunch for Vets! The Bowery Bar and Lucy’s American Tavern are offering 25% off their Sunday Brunch on Veteran’s Day for those who have served or who currently serve with proof of military ID. And can check out their brunch menu here!

Watch:
The Patriots take on the Texans on Sunday at 1pm.  Watch it in the tavern at 224 Boston – start with brunch and stick around for the game!  Check out 224’s brunch menu here!

Support:
The CIA (Castle Island Association) is hosting a special Veterans Day Weekend “Support the Troops” toiletry drive! Volunteers will be setting up a spot in front of Sullivan’s Saturday-Monday 10am-12pm!  After you’re done doing your good deed, order yourself a half price hot dog at Sully’s!

Register:
It’s the Dorchester Running Club’s fourth annual Halfway to Dot Day 5k Road Race! This fun run takes place on Saturday, December 8th at 9am!  You can register here! 

Run/Walk:
Ready, set, go! The DAV 5K to honor veterans is a run, walk, roll and motorcycle ride that thanks those who served and raises awareness of the issues our ill and injured veterans face every day. The race takes place at Castle Island on Saturday, November 10th at 9am. $25 for adults, $15 for youth 6-15. To register visit here! Free for veterans!
