Update:

The MBTA announced that Red Line service to Ashmont and Braintree is restored following this morning’s incident and shared important schedule updates and details for riders depending on their commute. Customers heading toward Braintree are advised to change trains at JFK/UMass for continuing Red Line service. Service will resume for Ashmont-bound customers, and riders will not need to switch trains at JFK/UMass. With safety as the MBTA’s first priority, Red Line trains will operate at reduced speeds as they travel through JFK/UMass and customers should plan for an additional 15 to 20 minutes of commuting time.

Braintree branch customers can also take the Middleborough/Lakeville, Kingston/Plymouth, or Greenbush Commuter Rail Lines (note: Greenbush stops at JFK/UMass and Quincy Center, but not Braintree). Ashmont branch customers can take the Fairmount Line. Customers can show their CharlieCards or CharlieTickets for Commuter Rail service through tomorrow morning.

Red Line customers are encouraged to utilize supplemental Commuter Rail trains providing outbound service this evening and inbound service tomorrow morning between South Station, JFK/UMass, Quincy Center, and Braintree. Passengers should show their CharlieCards or CharlieTickets in order to board.

Original Post:

Steve Poftak, general manger of the MBTA will seek a third-party review of derailments. Poftak stated during a press conference held on Tuesday that the Red Line derailment was not related to the Green Line derailment near Kenmore Square on Saturday.

According to the Boston Globe, the review will focus on all mainline revenue derailments over the last two years.

Rush Hour Delay Alert

For Tuesday evening’s commute, shuttle buses will be in use at the Braintree, Quincy Center, and JFK/UMass stations. So plan accordingly.
