The City of Boston is hosting a second community walk and bike today to discuss safety upgrades Massachusetts Avenue between Melnea Cass Boulevard and Columbia Road at Edward Everett Square.
According to Streets Blog, this corridor was identified as a top short-term priority for better bike lanes and crosswalks in the GoBoston 2030 plan and connects the South End and Dorchester. The corridor includes Newmarket station (Fairmont Line) right near South Bay – where lots of new development is in the works.
The goal of the community walks/bikes is to help with the future planning and design to improve the corridor. Work on Melnea Cass Boulevard should start in the spring with the goal of calming traffic and improving pedestrian safety. The city’s contracted planning and design work for Mass Ave should be complete by 2022.
