At approximately 1:30am on Monday, BFD responded to a call for a fire on Whitman Street.  When firefighters arrived, fire was showing from the second floor of a large six-family building, and rescued a woman from the second floor.

The fire traveled from the second floor to the third floor. BFD companies were able to quickly contain the fire to the right of the building to the left and stop it from going through the roof.

“Heavy smoke condition on the second and third floor,” Brian Alkins from BFD said. “The guys did a great job containing the fire from traveling across from the right side of the building to the left side and keeping it going through the roof on the third floor.”

One firefighter and two residents were transported by ⁦Boston EMS with non-life-threatening injuries. 17 residents were displaced ⁦from their home.  Red Cross was on hand to help with housing. Damages are estimated at $200,000.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
