Dorchester native and former Boston Bruins player Jimmy Hayes, 31, who died suddenly back in August, died with fentanyl and cocaine in his system.

According to a column by Dan Shaughnessy in the Boston Globe, Hayes father and wife decided to share this news in an effort to prevent the same thing from happening to another family. Hayes struggled with an addiction to pain medication after an injury during his seven year career in the NHL.
