Whether you woke up elated with the news that Donald Trump is now our 47th President or if you woke up sad and disappointed, here are the election results and some news about ballots in Boston.
First, the ballots
Due to high voter turnout Tuesday afternoon, some Boston polling stations ran out of ballots. Boston Police were sent to bring new ballots before the polls closed.
The state cannot extend voting hours without a court order, but anyone who was in line by 8 p.m. could still vote.
According to WBUR, the affected precincts are in Hyde Park. Apparently, the city’s election department did not send all of the ballots in its possession to polling locations. City election workers were told to send additional ballots and then check in with other precincts in Hyde Park and Roslindale to ensure they were adequately supplied.
Earlier in the day, a precinct in East Boston reported a vote tabulator that wasn’t working properly, but people were still able to cast their votes. Ballots in the precinct were hand counted until the tabulator was fixed.
The City of Boston issued the following apology on social media.
“We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion, and are grateful for the diligent efforts of poll workers throughout the city to ensure that every voter can exercise their right to vote.”
