Dorchester Milestones

Did you know that in the early 1700’s, there was only one road out of Boston?  Along this road, where stones that marked each mile – yes, milestones.

Earl Taylor, President of the Dorchester Historical Society and the owner/creator of content for the Dorchester Athenaeum shared his research on the topic of Boston milestones on the Historic Boston Incorporated website.

Interested in seeing one of this historic milestones in real life.  You can check out one in Grove Hall – 473 Warren Street – and there’s one at the James Blake House on Columbia Road.
