This morning, Judge Jackie Cowin sentenced RAMON RODRIGUEZ-DELGADO, 48, of Dorchester to life without the possibility of parole for the fatal stabbing of Marcelino Perez, 77, also of Dorchester.
Perez’s family members were present and delivered a victim impact statement. “While no sentence can ever bring him back, this court has honored his life by delivering justice in his name. We will remember him for the love he gave, the stories he told, and the kindness he showed to all,” said Perez’s granddaughter.
A Suffolk County jury on Friday found Rodriguez-Delgado guilty of first-degree murder.
Rodriguez-Delgado lived in a building across the courtyard from Perez’s Shandon Road apartment building and had previously observed an individual arrive at Perez’ apartment in order to deliver prize money from a private lottery in which Perez was involved.
The investigation revealed that on July 26, 2018, Rodriguez-Delgado observed Perez and the male with the money enter 99 Shandon Road together just before 2 p.m. Video surveillance shows that the man who dropped off the money left the apartment just after 2 p.m. and that Rodriguez-Delgado entered and exited 99 Shandon Road three times, each time wearing different clothing. Perez was later found in his apartment with multiple stab wounds.
The Commonwealth was represented by ADA Ursula Knight and ADA Robert Reed. Rodriguez-Delgado was represented by Attorney David Leon.
“The love and sadness expressed by Marcelino Perez’s granddaughter today take on an added poignancy given the holiday season, a time when she and the rest of Mr. Perez’s family would like nothing more than to be with the person they clearly adored and admired. I thank the jurors for their verdict and all those who worked to hold this defendant accountable for his heartless action,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
