The 117th annual parade will be held Sunday, June 4 at 1 p.m.
On Thursday, the Dorchester Day Parade Committee kicked off Dot Day weekend with its annual dinner honoring the parade’s Chief Marshall, honorary Mayor of Dorchester, and Little and Young Miss Dorchester.
This year the parade committee celebrated its first transgender honorary mayor of Dorchester, Ms. Lily Rose Valore. She is a Boston-based showgirl and transgender activist who said she was grateful to receive the honor and give back to her community.
“This is my chance to say thank you to a community that makes me feel safe everyday. Safety is very key for black trans women,” said Lily Rose. “We are being taken away at all-time highs right now, so it’s important to have a space where you can just feel loved.”
