Poured with love

Triple Decker Candle Co. was founded by Johanna Keough in June of 2020. What started as a hobby during the pandemic – where Johanna left the candles on friends’ door steps during quarantine – quickly became something more! Each candle is hand poured from a small batch and created from both beeswax and soy wax to ensure that they are natural and eco-friendly. We asked Johanna a few questions about her new budding business:

Where do you find inspiration for your candle fragrances?

I’m really particular with the fragrances. I test each candle scent in my home a few times before I sell it. I always make sure the scents are upscale, have great scent, but aren’t strong enough to give you a headache. Everything is a “collection” whether on the website, or a set sold in a store, and I try to make sure they are balanced with something that would appeal to everyone.

What is your favorite scent?

My favorite scent is white tea because it is so versatile. It can be used in any room and it is a great balance of clean and floral, which are my two favorite types of candles. 

What makes your candles different?

I spent a lot of time finding the most high quality ingredients for the safest candles. I only buy my fragrances oils to mix from a supplier that specializes in clean scents free of phthalates. Our candles are free of dyes, phthalates, and adhere to RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) standards. We only use natural hemp wicks, which are coated in beeswax.

Why did you start making candles?

We were sick of wondering if store-bought candles were slowly killing us. We also worried about the safety of our friends, neighbors and family. We started researching safer alternatives to the everyday paraffin wax candles that are so easy to come by. With the help of so many friends, we had a period of testing and perfecting our product of a safer, but still beautiful, candle. Triple Decker Candle Company was born from there, and we can’t wait to save you from the toxins of your store-bought candles.
