11-year-old Johan Howard and 15-year-old Juliana Howard survived a shooting last month on Ames Street in Dorchester but were left injured as gunfire struck them both. A GoFundMe was created to help the family pay for medical expenses, and in two weeks, the community has almost raised $30,000.
Johan, a sixth-grader at Charles Taylor Elementary in Mattapan, was shot in the leg. He was released from Boston Children’s Hospital. Juliana Howard, a sophomore at the Community Academy of Science and Health in Dorchester, was in critical condition on a ventilator at Boston Medical Center as of the creation of the GoFundMe. She was shot four times.
