Prepare to Seek Alternate Route
The Dorchester Ave. Bridge will close for the summer on Monday, June 6th. The nearly 100 year old steel bridge was last repaired way back in 1975. So it’s time. Construction will happen over the summer months to prepare for a full replacement of the bridge in the summer of 2023. You can get the full details here!
City of Boston Free Outdoor Fitness Series
Get moving! The Boston Parks and Recreation Department and the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) are pleased to announce the 2022 Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The series will offer free weekly classes both virtually and in 18 City of Boston parks from June 5 to October 1. The series offers Yoga, Barre, Dance Fit, HIIT, Family Fitness, ZUMBA, Strength Training, Afrobeats, POUND, Walking Group, and Strength Training! You can learn more here!
Pride Celebrations Happening In and Around Boston
The first day of June signals the start of Pride month and although there isn’t an official Boston Pride Parade this year, all month long there are opportunities around the city (and beyond) to show off your rainbow gear and support the local LGBTQIA+ community. Check out our round up here!
Olsen’s Crush Cancer Family Benefit
Last week, Dorchester resident and Dorchester Youth Hockey player, Conor Olson received his last dose of chemo at the Dana Farber/Jimmy Fund Chemo Center! While he was there, Conor donated an impressive check for $10,000 from his fundraising efforts to the Jimmy Fund Clinic /Activities Team! Sadly, the Olsen family was dealt another blow – Deb – mother of Conor – was just diagnosed with breast cancer. A special family fundraiser will take place on Thursday, June 9th from 6:30pm-11:30pm at Florian Hall. There will be lots of raffles for some great prizes including a trip to Vegas, Loon Mountain, golf outings and much more! Cash and Venmo will be accepted for raffles and tickets at the door.
