At about 9:40 PM, on December 4, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an on-site firearm arrest of a 17-year-old Juvenile Male.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Lyford Street when their attention was drawn to two individuals walking in the middle of Stratton Street. Officers exited their cruiser to speak with the individuals, and the two males quickened their pace to avoid the interaction.
Officers were able to stop the two males, and conducted a threshold inquiry. Officers released both males and contacted District Detectives for assistance. After further investigation, detectives observed on surveillance footage that one of the individuals placed an unknown item behind a vehicle after seeing the officers’ marked cruiser.
Officers searched the area and located a discarded firearm under the vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a Springfield Armory with eighteen rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. Officers began to search the area and located the two suspects in the area of 185 Harvard Street.
The 17-year-old Juvenile Male was placed under arrest and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
