Good grief!  A man was arrested in Dorchester on Tuesday with an assault riffle, a crazy amount of ammunition, and drugs!  Should be noted, the man arrested is from Winthrop.

From BPD news:
At about 1:15 PM on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, members of the District B-2 (Roxbury) and District C-11 (Dorchester) Neighborhood Drug Control Units conducted drug investigations in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Columbia Road. During the course of their surveillance, officers observed a female, later identified as 29-year-old Krista McCaffrey of Winthrop, alight from a Ford Explorer, enter the nearby KFC restaurant, and engage in what officers believed from their training and experience to be a drug transaction. Officers made a stop of McCaffrey as she got back into the front passenger’s seat of the Explorer. As a result of the stop, McCaffrey produced a plastic bag of a brown powdered substance believed to be heroin. Officers arrested McCaffrey and charged her with Possession of a Class B Drugs (Heroin). McCaffrey was also arrested by virtue of outstanding default warrants for Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession of Class E Drugs out of South Boston District Court.

During the investigation, the operator or the vehicle, identified as 70-year-old Stephen J. White of Winthrop, indicated to officers that he was armed. Officers recovered from his person a loaded Para Hi-Cap P12 .45 caliber firearm. Further investigation of White and his vehicle revealed a Windham Mecal 223 AR-15 style rifle with a folding stock and flash suppressor, ten loaded high capacity magazines, and a black tactical ballistic body armor vest inside his car. Officers arrested White and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm (one count), Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device (ten counts), and Knowingly being Present where Heroin is Kept.

Said Police Commissioner William Evans, “There is no need for any citizen in the city of Boston to be carrying high powered weapons of this kind, and there are just too many of these guns out there. My greatest concern is the safety of our residents and neighborhoods, and my officers and I will continue to do our part to keep high capacity firearms and assault rifles off the streets of Boston and out of the wrong hands.”
