Taylor Swift Night at The LOT
Got a blank space, and we’re ready to fill it with Taylor Swift movie magic! Get ready for a night at The LOT to watch the Taylor Swift Movie on Friday, September 13th! We all know Taylor’s favorite number is 13, so they’re going to go BIG! The doors open at 6PM and the movie starts at 7PM. Come early to grab a spot and a drink, and enjoy games and FREE friendship bracelet-making! Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play—and we’re here to watch the Taylor Swift movie! Social Dancing at the Irish Pastoral Center
Whether you’re an experienced stepper or just want to try something new, the Irish Pastoral Center invites you to join their upcoming Irish-American Country Lessons and Social Dancing events starting this Friday from 7pm to 10pm. Participants will learn dances including jiving, quickstep, Waltz, Foxtrot, Siege of Ennis, Cotton Eyed Joe, line dancing and more! Admission is $10 per person at the door and all are welcome.
B.A.A. Fun Run at Franklin Park
The B.A.A. welcomes athletes of all ages and abilities to the Neighborhood Fitness Series presented by Boston Children’s Hospital. This weekend join the fun in Franklin Park for a free, 2-mile run or walk on Saturday. Participants meet at the Schoolmaster Hill Picnic Area for bib pickup beginning at 9am, with the race starting at 10am. Get started on your fitness journey while earning your very own unicorn medal!
DBCo Oktoberfest
Don’t be a brat, come to the wurst party! Join in the fun in Dorchester this Saturday for the first installment of DBCo’s Oktoberfest weekends. The event includes exclusive beer flights, liter pours of German beers, a stein-holding competition, live music, a bratwurst eating contest and more! Doors open at 11:30am and the fun continues all day and night long!
Caribbean Rum and Food Festival
Enjoy some of the world’s most renowned Caribbean Rum, cocktails, and food at the annual Caribbean rum and food festival this Saturday at Roxbury Community College. Guests will journey through the Caribbean as they experience the culinary diversity, live entertainment, and the spirits of each Caribbean country. General admission tickets are $30 and include a variety of Caribbean rum and cocktail samples. Proceeds help to benefit Caribbean kids with special needs and persons with disabilities in New England, as well as countries in the West Indies. The event is 21+.
Speed Dating at the Pearl
Are you ready to meet your match? The Pearl at South Bay is hosting a speed dating event for single, Black professionals on Sunday from 4pm to 6pm. Each participant will go on at least 10 dates lasting around eight minutes each. At the end of the event, if you receive any matches you will receive contact information for one another, and the rest is up to you! Tickets are $25 each and include complimentary drinks, music, and a great time. Ages 29-35 are welcome.
Enjoy a piano concert at Peabody Hall
Ashmont Hill Chamber Music presents pianist Zhu Wang in recital, September 15, 4pm, Peabody Hall, 209 Ashmont Street, Dorchester. A reception follows the concert and all are invited. First prize winner of the 2020 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and praised by the New York Times as being “…A superb pianist…with an unusually interesting and adventurous set of pieces, and a thoughtful, sensitive performer.” The program includes works by Mozart, Bartok and Brahms. Tickets at the door or you can purchase them here. $3 tickets for EBT, WIC and ConnectorCard card holders.
