If the post-holiday drain and impending nor’easter have you thinking of laying low this weekend, you’re not alone. But for those looking to get out and explore, there’s plenty to see and do around Dot this weekend. Events may be canceled due to inclement weather, so call ahead to confirm.

Live Music at Boston Harbor Distillery

Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish are performing at Boston Harbor Distillery’s first live music night of 2024. Based on Martha’s Vineyard, the band will bring their distinctive sound of blues, rock n’ roll, country and funk to Dorchester Friday evening with doors opening at 7pm for this 21+ show.

Rum Punch and Music

Dorchester’s hottest Caribbean parties, Rum Punch and Music, return this Friday with artist and St. Lucia’s soca sensation, Freezy. The party gets underway Friday at the Unity Sports and Cultural Club in Dorchester starting at 7pm.

Healing Sound Bath

This therapeutic workshop is designed to support participants who have experienced trauma including domestic violence and sexual abuse. Instructor Giselle uses sound from crystal singing bowls as a therapeutic and restorative process. Participants will also learn the basics of sound therapy and how it heals the chakras. The workshop takes place Saturday from 12pm to 2pm at the Black Box Theater in Codman Square.

Trailside Exploring in Milton

Break out the snow boots and jackets for an exciting nature program about the trails of the Blue Hills on Saturday from 10am to 11:30am. Experts from the Mass Audubon Society will guide preschool-aged kids through interactive stories, nature crafts and hands-on activities at the Blue Hills Trailside Museum. Cost is $15 per child.

Teen Yoga Class

The Codman Square Branch of the Boston Public Library invites teens ages 13 to 18 to participate in a free yoga class with instructor Akeem Lloyd from Moccasin Yoga. The first of five free sessions, the event is for all skill levels and takes place Saturday from 12pm to 1pm.

Haitian Independence Day Gala

Come celebrate the 25th Annual Haitian Independence Day Gala at IBEW Local 103 in Dorchester. Join in for a night filled with joy, music, and cultural pride commemorating Haiti’s independence. The fundraising event will feature live performances, delicious traditional cuisine on Saturday from 7pm to 11pm.

Disco Dance Party

Don’t wait to snag your ticket to this disco extravaganza taking over Dorchester’s Florian Hall this Saturday evening. Special guest and Saturday Night Fever choreographer Deney Terrio will host the evening, which will feature two live bands, two DJs and two full rooms of fun. Doors open at 7:30pm.

Dry January

If you’re looking to start the New Year by cutting back or eliminating alcohol, going out might feel daunting. But fear not! Many of our favorite Dot spots have N/A or low-ABV options available, including Yellow Door’s new guilt-free cocktail menu featuring faux Aperol spritz, espresso martini or Paloma. Dorset Hall also offers a selection of non-alcoholic beers like Athletic Run Wild IPA, or grab a Heineken 00 at The Harp + Bard.
