Calling all current, former, and potential girl Dorchester Youth Hockey players!  All ages!  Join the Dorchester Youth Hockey League for a night of all-girls skating, scrimmaging, and community on Friday, February 28th, starting at 7pm at the Devine Skating Rink! A welcomed sign of spring happens this weekend – Sullivan’s will be open after a brief hiatus! The legendary hot dog stand opens its doors on Saturday, March 1st! What is your go-to order? King Tide Event

Join the Neponset River Watershed  for a King Tide Event on Saturday from 11am-1pm on Tenean Beach with NepRWA scientists at the mouth of the Neponset Estuary during King Tide* to learn how extreme weather affects our coastline and what’s being done to help. King Tide is a popular, non-scientific term people often use to describe exceptionally high tides that occur during a new or full moon.  You can learn more here. 

Return of The Ice Creamsmith

For over 40 years, The Ice Creamsmith in Lower Mills has been churning out delicious made-from-scratch ice cream!  Making their ice cream in small batches on-site – (it goes from production to scoop in as little as 24 hours), the Ice Creamsmith has been delighting generations with their sweet treats!  It will open for its 49th season on March 1st!

Watch Six Nations Rugby matches at Scobie’s from January 13th – March 15th.  They’ll be serving Irish Breakfast Rolls + Sausage rolls.

Low-Cost Dog Licensing Clinic

The Animal Rescue League of Boston is teaming up with the City of Boston to provide low-cost rabies vaccines and dog licenses this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm at BCYF Perkins – 155 Talbot Avenue. Boston residents can get their dog licensed for $15 for spayed and neutered pets, and rabies vaccines are just $5. There is no charge for city residents over age 70 to license their pets. This clinic is first come, first served. No appointments are needed but space is limited.  You can learn more here. 

Boston Supports LAFD

A special night of friendship and fun to benefit the LAFD’s Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firefighters Fund and Wildfire Victims on Saturday, March 1st at 7pm at the Boston Teachers’ Union – 180 Mount Vernon Street.  DJ James MacDougall and Dennis Taylor will be performing.  There will be raffles, dancing and more.  Tickets are $25.

Bird Walk with Nature Man Mike

for all you birdwatchers out there, Nature Man Mike, a local legend, is offering a bird walk on Sunday, March 2nd from 8am-10am at Arnold Arboretum – meet in front of the Hunnewell Buidling at 125 Arborway.  It’s a free event but you must register here!  This two-hour walk is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced birders. Binoculars will be available to borrow on a first-come-first-serve basis, but you are encouraged to bring your own!
