Get Moving!

Calling all urban hikers! The next phase of the City On The Hills Trail project is underway, and you can be a part of shaping Boston’s next great park-to-park trail. Join fellow explorers on Sunday, March 16, in Roxbury and Dorchester for a day of surveying and brainstorming as you hike the prospective fourth section of this developing trail.

The Plan:

  • 9:00 AM: Meet at Roxbury Crossing Station (Orange Line) for the first leg of the hike.
  • Morning Route: Roxbury Crossing to Naidelys Market (2.5 miles)
  • Noon: Break for lunch at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Intervale Street in Dorchester.
  • 1:00 PM: Reconvene at Naidelys Market for the second leg.
  • Afternoon Route: Naidelys Market to Savin Hill Station (2.7 miles)
  • Final Stop: I-93 overpass next to Savin Hill Red Line station.

Unlike traditional guided hikes, this one is all about collaboration! As you walk, you’ll discuss potential route adjustments and highlight nearby spots that could become part of the trail experience. Be ready to share ideas, navigate diverse terrain, and maybe even push a few branches aside.

Things to Know:

  • The hike will feature a mix of paved and dirt paths, staircases, and sloped surfaces, which may be snowy.
  • If you use trekking poles or ice spikes for stability, bring them along!
  • Expect a good amount of climbing and descending—this is the City On The Hills Trail, after all!
  • Restrooms? There will be opportunities at businesses along the way, but it’s best to plan ahead before we start.

This is your chance to be part of something big—helping to shape a cross-city hiking trail that future Bostonians will enjoy for years to come. Lace up your boots, dress for the elements, and let’s get to work (and walk)!
