One suspect is in custody after breaking and entering into DJ’s European Market at 120 Boston Street.  Found near the suspect was a black Giant Alight bicycle and black plastic trash bag filled with lottery tickets and cigarette packs.  (We secretly wish nips were in the bag to make this story even better.) The other suspect  fled on foot and is still at-large.  You can see a video of the suspects here on NBC10Boston

The first suspect, Thien Nguyen, 39 was arraigned in South Boston District Court on Tuesday.

At about 4:29AM on Saturday, August 4, 2018, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) responded to a call for a commercial alarm in the area of 120 Boston Street, South Boston. Upon arrival, officers met with the reporting party who stated they heard glass breaking, activated the store’s panic alarm and observed one suspect flee on a bicycle, while the other suspect fled on foot in the direction of Mount Vernon Street.

Officers observed that the front glass door appeared to have been smashed from the outside and two bricks were present on the sidewalk immediately outside the damaged door. Officers were advised by dispatch that Boston EMS had located one suspect at the intersection of Boston Street and Mount Vernon Street. Officers proceeded to that location and observed Suspect #1, Later identified as Thien Nguyen, 39 of Boston, being detained in the area of 175 Boston Street by EMS.

Officers located a black Giant Alight bicycle and black plastic trash bag filled with lottery tickets and cigarette packs on the sidewalk near the suspect. EMS stated that they heard the sound of glass breaking and observed both suspects fleeing in their direction. Suspect Nguyen had fallen from his bicycle at which time EMS was able to detain him until police arrived.

The second suspect fled on foot in the direction of Harvest Street and was described as a thin male, light complexion, about 5′ 7″, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored pants and a mask. Officers were able to view surveillance footage that showed the suspects breaking in and removing merchandise. Nguyen was placed under arrest for Breaking and Entering into a Building (Nighttime), and Larceny.  He will be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
