The Teamsters Local 25 Women’s Committee is again on a Backpack Mission to benefit the William E. Russell Elementary School on Columbia Rd. in Dorchester.  Since 2019, the Teamsters Local 25 Women’s Committee has collected and filled 375 backpacks with school supplies for students at Russell Elementary and are providing another 200 backpacks prior to the start of the 2021 academic year.  The women of Local 25 visited Russell Elementary to help hand out backpacks to students during school’s vibrant Welcome Back event, which drew more than 200 parents, students and school staff.

Many students at Russell Elementary live at or near the poverty line and the Teamsters Local 25 Women’s Committee is determined to help support these wonderful students and teachers by providing needed school supplies and essential items that support learning.  The Local 25 Women’s Committee brought many backpacks filled with supplies to the Welcome Back event and had a great time as the entire Russell School community celebrated in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Local 25 is also helping the school create classroom space specifically for students with autism and other developmental disabilities, through the Teamsters Local 25 Autism Fund.
