At about 4:11 PM on Tuesday January 5, 2021, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested Antonio Cartegena, 44, of South Boston, on numerous charges after responding to a call for a person with a gun in the area of 1432 Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester. On arrival, officers met with an employee of a local auto parts store who stated that he had confronted the male suspect as he attempted to leave the business without rendering payment for several items. Upon stopping the suspect, he threatened to shoot the victim and displayed what appeared to be a firearm in the waistband area of his pants before fleeing the area on a red scooter.

While canvassing the area, officers observed a male matching the given description operating a scooter in the area of Church Street and East Street. As the suspect attempted to negotiate a left turn onto East Street, he struck and damaged a Boston Police marked cruiser, before abandoning the scooter and fleeing on foot. The suspect was placed in custody without further incident following a brief pursuit. No firearm has been recovered at this time.

The suspect will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Armed Robbery, Failure to Stop for Police and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Property Damage. Additionally, the suspect was found to be wanted on two straight warrants issued out of Dedham District Court and Middlesex Superior Court on numerous charges including Home Invasion, Burglary, Breaking and Entering and Assault and Battery.
