4.2-mile run or 2.1-mile walk event on April 5 starts at 8am

WHAT:  The Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center (the Reggie) at Roxbury Community College (RCC) is raising money at its 30th Anniversary Road Race April 5. The event at Franklin Park features a 4.2-mile run, or 2.1-mile walk, along with other family-friendly activities, to bring the community together in support of health, wellness, and athletic excellence. It costs participants $30 to register on the website. Just like the Reggie, Franklin Park is in the heart of Roxbury and is a beloved location for the greater Roxbury community, making it the perfect place to host this 30th Anniversary kickoff event.

Thanks to the generosity of Abbott, the top two male and female finishers will receive bibs to the BAA 5K. One additional donated bib will be raffled off on race day. The Road Race is also made possible through donations from State Street and the Lewis Family Foundation, and in-kind sponsorships from New Balance and AK’s.

Every step taken will help raise essential funds for facility enhancements and programming at the Reggie.

WHO: The following members of the RCC and Reggie community will be available for interviews:

• Dr. Jonathan Jefferson, President of RCC

• Michael Turner, Executive Director, Business Development and Marketing

• Jennie McDonald-Brown, Vice President of Institutional Advancement & RCC Foundation

WHERE: Shattuck Picnic Grove, Franklin Park

1 Franklin Park Road, Boston, MA 02130

Parking is available nearby and the Park is easily accessible by public transit.

WHEN: Saturday, April 5, 2025. Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. The race begins at 8:00 a.m.

WHY: Although Back Bay and Roxbury are two miles apart, there is a 23-year difference in life expectancy for people living in those two neighborhoods. The Reggie is helping address this health inequity as the home of health and wellness in Roxbury and Black Boston. The Road Race kicks off a series of events celebrating the Reggie’s 30th anniversary. Funds raised for the Roxbury cornerstone will augment its current fitness and community offerings and create new programs to further support the community.

Registration for the Road Race is $30. To learn more about the Reggie and its 30th Anniversary celebration, visit www.rcc.mass.edu/reggie30.
