Proposed Nail Salon on Adams Street Receives Pushback from Neighbors

Plans to bring a nail salon to the former Cedar Grove Gardens site on Adams Street received strong pushback from the neighborhood.

According to the Dorchester Reporter, the proposal was “roundly rejected” during a virtual abutters meeting held on Monday night, where more than 70 residents logged on to share their concerns.

The plan would renovate the longtime garden center at 911 Adams Street into a nail salon with multiple service stations and nine parking spaces. But many neighbors said it’s simply not the right fit for the area, pointing to existing traffic, limited parking, and the number of similar businesses already in the neighborhood.

Some residents suggested other uses, like housing or a community-focused space, might make more sense for the site, which has been empty since the garden center closed in early 2024.

There’s alot of recent pushback going on in this neighborhood lately related to proposed changes in housing and updating commercial spaces.

What’s the problem in this super white enclave of Dorchester ( Bostons largest , most diverse neighborhood) face the fear people, and do it anyway

This needs to be a flower shop again. Not a nail salon. I need flowers for the cemetery . Not pretty nails to go t the cemetery since will get them dirty fixing plants there. Even after fixing, i would not go there since will be to sad to have nice nails.

Moc, Actually as a Latina in the neighborhood I don’t want another nail shop. We need business that align with the community they are in. We don’t need 20 nail shops within walking distance of one another. We need businesses that provide services local residents need and respect the fact that they are located in a densely populated area.
