One Less Gun: At about 1:45 AM on Friday, May 15, 2020, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm during a traffic stop in the area of 226 Columbia Road in Dorchester. While traveling on Magnolia Street, officers observed a motor vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at multiple stop signs in the area. The operator also failed to use a turn signal at the intersection of Magnolia Street and Bird Street and again while turning from Bird Street onto Ceylon Street and one more time from Ceylon Street onto Columbia Road. Due to the multiple infractions, officers activated their emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop in the area of 226 Columbia Road.
Officers approached the vehicle which was occupied by the female driver and a male passenger. When officers asked the operator to produce the registration, she immediately responded that she could not locate it, without ever making an effort to check the common areas where it would be stored, such as the glove compartment or center console. When officers encouraged the operator to check the glove compartment for the registration, she quickly opened it, grabbed a piece of paper, and slammed it close. The document the operator produced was not her registration. Additionally, officers observed an open bottle of alcohol in the back seat of the motor vehicle.
As the interaction progressed, officers observed the two occupants to become increasingly nervous. The operator was breathing heavily and the passenger was refusing eye contact with the officers. At this time, the two occupants were removed from the vehicle. Officers subsequently located a Beretta 950bs .25 caliber firearm loaded with five rounds of live ammunition inside of the passenger’s front right jacket pocket. The passenger was taken into custody. The operator was identified and released from the scene.
Officers arrested Damarius Bultumer, 20-years-old of West Roxbury. Bultumer is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Subsequent Offense, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
