The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the Granite Avenue Drawbridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic during overnight hours on Sunday, August 12, as well as Monday, August 13. These closures will take place each night from 10 p.m., through 5 a.m.
During these times, Exit 11B on I-93 southbound and Exit 11 on I-93 northbound will also be closed and detour routes will be in place. All lanes on I-93 north and southbound will remain open throughout these operations. These traffic impacts are necessary to allow crews and contractors to safely and effectively make repairs to the bridge.
Signage and messaging will be in place to notify drivers of these detours. MassDOT encourages the public to be mindful of potential traffic impacts. Those traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution. The schedule for this work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
