Savin Hill’s community-driven market, The Daily, offers convenience as well as a selection of products from local vendors and household staples. The Daily has everything you need in a local market: a wide selection of grocery items, a delicious bakery and coffee selection, a deli complete with made-to-order sandwiches, pre-made takeaway items, and a hot bar with a rotating menu. In just a few short years, The Daily has become a staple in the neighborhood.

Previously a corner store called Ric-Rob, the location remained vacant for a number of years before Dorchester natives James Baker and John McDonough acquired the space. They surveyed locals to find out what they felt the neighborhood was missing and were met with a resounding: grocery store! The Daily opened its doors in January 2020, just a few months before the COVID pandemic began, and neighbors embraced the market with open arms. The Daily supported the Savin Hill community with well-stocked shelves and an opportunity for shoppers to avoid the crowds that came with trips to larger grocery stores.

These days, The Daily thrives on foot traffic. Their regulars are a combination of neighbors, commuters hopping on and off the T at the Savin Hill stop, and students from Cristo Rey High School next door who stop by before and after school. The staff prides themselves on knowing their regulars, a task made easier by the frequency that customers come in to shop. “People literally stop by daily,” says Manager Victoria Baker, born and raised in Savin Hill. As a Savin Hill resident myself, though admittedly a transplant, I often find myself doing just that!

Customers can feel great about shopping at The Daily, which strives to feature local vendors and support other small businesses. Regular shoppers at the market often become vendors simply by pitching their products when they pop by for their daily visit. If you are a local maker or business owner, do not hesitate to stop in – ask for Tom or Victoria.

If you haven’t checked out The Daily yet, make it your next stop! Keep your eyes peeled in the Ashmont neighborhood in late 2024 for The Daily’s second location – you heard it here first!

A few years back, Caught in Dot reported on The Daily’s potential new business, The Nightly – a new restaurant complete with a dining room, bar plus function space, and outdoor patio!  That is still in the works, but The Daily’s second location is the priority at this time!

The Daily is open 7am – 9pm. SHOP ONLINE FOR HOME DELIVERY OR IN-STORE PICKUP
