According to the Associate Press, Massachusetts lawmakers are looking at a proposal that would give cities and towns a little freedom in allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to vote in municipal elections.
This coming Wednesday, the Joint Committee on Election Laws will hold a public hearing on a bunch of bills including two that would let “every citizen 16 or 17 years of age, who is a resident in the city or town where he or she claims the right to vote.”
This bill would let cities and towns decide if 16 and 17-year-olds can vote without needing permission from the Legislature. Somerville and Concord have already expressed interest in this. Wonder if Boston will go down this path.
