Comfort Kitchen to Host Book Talk Exploring the History of Public Bathrooms
Comfort Kitchen in Upham’s Corner is hosting an event that connects perfectly with the history of its unique home. On Saturday, September 26, from 1pm–3pm, author and historian Bryant Simon will stop by to discuss his new book, For Customers Only: Public Bathrooms and the Making of American Inequality.
Comfort Kitchen is located at 611 Columbia Road inside a former public “comfort station” built in 1912. Simon’s book explores the history of public bathrooms in America and how access to them has been connected to larger issues of race, class, gender, and inequality.
The event is presented in partnership with JustBook-ish and will also feature Lisa Lewis of Historic Boston Incorporated, who will share more about the history and preservation of the building.
