According to Universal Hub, City Councilor Frank Baker (Dorchester ) delayed an action proposed by City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan) to freeze rents, mortgages, evictions and foreclosures during our current state of emergency due to COVID-19.
During the council meeting (held via Zoom), Arroyo wanted to suspend the rule that requires proposed actions to have a hearing first, then a vote – so the council members could vote right away.
Baker objected noting the matter was too complex and out of the City of Boston’s authority. The docket was then assigned to the Committee on Housing & Community Development. Evidently, Arroyo was not too pleased.
You can see what else was discussed via City Councilor-at-Large Michelle Wu’s copious notes here.
