The first weekend in May is proving to be a wild one as Mexico’s celebration of military victory collides with the iconic “Run for the Roses.” Whether your plan is to knock back a couple of margaritas or to dust off your best hat, we’ve rounded up all the Cinco de Derby happenings in Dorchester so you can celebrate all weekend long! So get ready to raise a toast for victory on the battlefield and victory in the winner’s circle!
Lower Mills Tavern
Enjoy Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders madewith turkey and bacon with sliced tomatoes and a mornay sauce poured over the sliders and baked and Mint Juleps made with Four Roses Bourbon, mint, simple syrup and splash of soda water at Lower Mills Tavern. Save room for dessert – Mint Julep Cupcakes made with vanilla bourbon cupcake topped with mint buttercream! Derby attire suggested! On Cinco de Mayo, you can drink a specialty cocktail – the Passionfruit Margarita to celebrate!
The Bowery Bar
The Bowery Bar is celebrating the opening of their patio! Enjoy mint juleps in the sunshine (fingers crossed). There will be live music, Redemption Whiskey cocktails, locally made fascinators will be on sale! The fun takes places 3pm-8pm. For more information or to RSVP – visit here!

For the Kentucky Derby, Yellow Door will be serving up specialty cocktail Mint Julep Margarita? made with Heddura Tequila & house-made mint simple and it’s available FROZEN!! The frozen drink machine is back for the season! On Sunday YDT is Cinco de Mayo central There will be cocktail and food specials and plenty of decorations to get you in the spirit!
Lucy’s American Tavern
Lucy’s is hosting a special Derby Party fundraiser for Team Sunshine members for Best Buddies! Team members include Dianne and Ron Lescinskas, Tricia Dillon, Karen Doherty, Debbie Collins, Michelle Mullaly and Caroline English. There will be food, fun, prizes for best Derby outfits, and of course the big race on the TV’s. Suggested donation $20.
Dorchester Brewing Co.
Celebrate Cinco De Mayo at DBC! Enjoy a special beer release featuring a classic cerveza style lager, Dorchesquis! Stop in over the weekend, Dorset Hall plans on serving up some traditional Mint Juleps on Saturday and Margaritas on Sunday. The Kentucky Derby will be on in the bar on Saturday.
