It’s not every day that a tale of feline adventure ends with such a purr-fectly happy ending, but that’s exactly what happened just before Thanksgiving in Upham’s Corner.

Meet Fats, a daring Dorchester cat who took his curiosity to new heights—literally. For four chilly days, Fats was stuck in a tree 30 feet above the ground, leaving neighbors scratching their heads and worrying about his safety. Thankfully, the heroes from the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) swooped in to save the day.

How It All Unfolded

The ARL’s Field Services Department got the call about Fats just in time to bring him down before the holiday. Climbing the towering tree with skill and patience, an ARL agent coaxed Fats closer with soothing words and tasty treats, safely bringing him down to the relief of onlookers.

Fats was then taken to ARL’s Dedham Animal Care and Adoption Center for a medical check-up. It was here that technology and preparation combined for the win: Fats had been microchipped back in 2022 at ARL’s Wellness Waggin’, a mobile clinic that offers affordable pet care services in Dorchester and other Boston neighborhoods. This tiny chip held all the information needed to reunite him with his loving owne

A Joyful Reunion

Fats’ owner had been tirelessly searching for him for days, even hearing faint meows during her search. Little did she know, those cries for help were coming from above! When ARL contacted her with the good news, she was overjoyed to have her beloved cat safe and sound once again.

A Reminder for Pet Owners

Fats’ story is a heartwarming reminder of the importance of microchipping your pets. A microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, can be the difference between heartbreak and a happy reunion. It’s safe, easy, and lasts a lifetime, ensuring that if your furry friend ever goes on an unexpected adventure, they can find their way back home.

The ARL doesn’t just stop at cats in trees—they provide rescue services for all sorts of animals in precarious situations. From livestock to raptors, their Field Services team is always ready to help. If you or someone you know has an animal in need, don’t hesitate to call their hotline at (617) 426-9170 x563.
