Burst Pipe at UMass Boston Displaces Hundreds of Students

A rough start to the week for UMass Boston students. Hundreds were forced out of their dorm rooms after a sprinkler pipe burst inside the East Residence Hall, causing major flooding and shutting down the building.
According to Boston.com, the pipe burst on Monday and sent water through multiple floors of the residence hall, leaving many students suddenly without access to their rooms, belongings, and a place to stay. Some students reported being unable to grab essentials before being told to leave, and are now living out of suitcases while the university works to figure out next steps.
University officials say the building will remain closed for repairs and safety checks, and students have been placed in temporary housing while cleanup continues. The dining hall attached to the residence hall is expected to reopen first, but it’s still unclear when students will be able to move back into their rooms.
In the meantime, classes are continuing as scheduled, though students say the disruption has made things stressful and uncertain. UMass Boston says it’s working to support those affected with housing, meals, and other accommodations while the damage is addressed.
