Update:

A special memorial will take place to honor and remember David Jones – an associate professor at the Boston University School of Public Health who died last week after a tragic accident near JFK station.  A virtual and in-person service will take place from 3pm-5pm at BU.

The state has removed the dilapidated stairs that led to Jones’ death.

Universal Hub is reporting that David Jones, an associate professor at the Boston University School of Public Health, died on Saturday afternoon after falling through  a set of stairs near JFK/UMass Station.

Evidently, the rusted through stairway belongs to the Department of Conservation and Recreation. State police said via statement that after a preliminary investigation it was “revealed that the stairs had been deemed unsafe and closed for approximately 20 months.”

The district attorney is now handling the investigation.
