At about 3:10 PM today, Friday, May 25, 2018, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force recovered a firearm and arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male after a lengthy foot chase in the area of 23 Angell Street in Dorchester. This is the fourth arrest of a teenager with a firearm in less than 72 hours.
On the above date and time, officers were patrolling the area of Franklin Hill where they observed two males who appeared to be in their teens. Both males were wearing hooded sweatshirts and long pants in the nearly 90-degree heat. Officers noted that one of the males, upon noticing the officers, immediately turned and walked in the opposite direction. Officers followed the male on foot, noticing that the male held one hand against his waistband while the other hand was swinging freely. The male then began running, and the officers observed the male take a black object that appeared to be a firearm from his waistband. The officers ordered the male to drop the gun while continuing to pursue on foot. After a lengthy chase, officers were able to take the male into custody without further incident. Police K-9 “Duke” responded to the scene and alerted to the presence of a firearm in the area where the officer observed the suspect remove the object from his waistband. Officers then recovered a loaded Taurus .40 caliber firearm with an obliterated serial number. Officers arrested the 16-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester and charged him with Delinquent to wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number. The juvenile will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
“Lately, it’s too often that I find myself saying how troubled I am by how many young people have access to firearms,” said Boston Police Commissioner William Evan. “I commend my officers who are out there in the neighborhoods, day-in and day-out, working to take these guns off the streets and dedicating themselves to making Boston safer for these kids.”
