Investigation Update: Detectives assigned to the Boston Police Homicide Unit were granted a Murder warrant out of Dorchester District Court for Omara Shears. On December 10, 2021, the Boston Police Fugitive Unit took Omara Shears into custody. Omara Shears is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
Original Incident: At about 9:21 AM on Saturday, August 28, 2021, Boston Officers were alerted that a person was stabbed in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road. On arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim, later identified as Javare Sommerville, 17, of Providence, Rhode Island, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Boston Police Department is actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident and is asking anyone with information relative to this investigation to contact Boston Police Homicide Detectives at (617) 343-4470.
